TE297 is a grayscale test chart ideal for testing cameras with wide dynamic range, e.g., security cameras following IEC 62676-5. It is similar to the TE269C grayscale chart in that it orders the 36 patches in a circular shape to minimize shading/vignetting errors. However, this version reorders the gray patches to optimize testing for high-end camera systems with wide dynamic range requirements.
The patches were reordered to minimize reflections, often generated from the bright patches, for more accurate HDR measurements. In this chart, the bright patches are now located in the center of the images, resulting in less influence of the reflections in sensitive areas. As a result, testing wide dynamic range cameras is much more accurate with this test chart.
While this new patch order minimizes the bright patches onto the dark patches, we do not recommend it for cameras with heavy local tone mapping.
TE297 is supported by the iQ-Analyzer-X image evaluation software.
